COVID-19 Shutdown: Day 14. No, 21! 22?

We made a movie. Well, actually, a trailer for a movie that doesn't exist, but that is a mashup of two movies that do exist. Did I confuse you? Ok, let me sort this out.

The 48 Hour Film Project is holding weekend challenges. We decided that this past weekend was the one that fit in our schedule the best, but the challenge wasn't what we expected. The challenge was to create a trailer for a movie by imagining what two movies combined would look like. We had our choice of movies from two lists. We put together ideas such as combining Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy with Clerks:  Clerks Guide to the Galaxy.  Or we thought Tootsie and Fight Club:  Tootsie Club, where a depressed man discovers the keys to taking down societal institutions in a club where all the men dress like women. We had Lord of the Rings, combined with When Harry Met Sally: When the Lord Met the Ring. A lonely bronze age prophet discovers a ring that actually gives him powers, and thwarts his deity father's plans to have him executed.

We settled on the combination of The Sting, and Requiem For a Dream.  Here is how it turned out:

It got some laughs. We obviously made it satire, with an escalation joke of the game playing to "stay sharp" for when the casino reopens. Mixed reviews, as expected, but I know some people really can't take a joke. Or maybe it just wasn't that funny, but, common'. The Cards Against Humanity selections were pretty great, and not a single f-bomb was shown. And how about those low-tech camera tricks? Spins, zooms, and slo-mo! Quality!

But I have to say the best part is the score composed by our good friends Sara Rogers, and Nelson Rivera. Listen to that. They built it from scratch, and commented that enjoyed the opportunity to collaborate together. Both are amazingly talented musicians, who have written music, but never together.

We may have created a monster! At least, I can hope so.

The Shutdown Catchup

The last few weeks haven't been great, but certainly not bad. Waiting on some work to come in. Made some cool videos with Cortney. Here's an example:

Fighting wind, and a crowded park? Stupid people. Literally, the videos we made this past week were only 1:10-1:30 each, and it was challenging to get that much time uninterrupted by people even in a remote part of the park. Once editing I was insistent that we just re-record the audio in studio and layer it, but someone didn't want to.... pfffttt.

In all, they came out pretty good. As she kept reminding me, they're for little children, not movie critics, so I guess it's ok.

Future Plans

When all this is over, and there's thousands of surplus ventilators are being sold off, I'm buying one. As long as stupid people keep voting republican our taxes are never going to be used to provide services to the population, so I might as well be prepared for the next pandemic. Because you know, as long as stupid people keep voting republican, we're not going to be prepared as a nation for the next one.

What Have We Become

Well, I don't know the answer to that exactly. My guess is, not much different than we've ever been, hence, a narcissistic, unqualified, self-serving huckster can manage to get elected to the highest seat of office in our nation, and while we continuously suffer as a nation because of it, his cult of followers continues to blame everyone except the person responsible for the new issues we see every day - namely that narcissistic, unqualified, self-serving huckster.

So the ultimate answer I guess is that my blog has become where I rant endlessly about the moronic actions, 19th century attitudes, and complete blindness to reality of that particular demographic, which daily drags our nation deeper into the depths of their stagnant swamp, and decays the ideals that actually could make America a nation to emulate, not a nation to fear, scorn, or laugh at as is currently happening around the world.

The problem is, these attitudes are so rampant, and their lies, and lack of logic so dense, I could spend hours upon hours laying it all out here. I simply don't have that time.

I'll leave you with this video, and the old proverb, "When someone shows you who they are, believe them." And for someone who has never shown himself to be anything but a selfish, pompous, lying, unethical, faux rich guy who will stab or undercut anyone for a buck, a whole lot of people haven't been believing what Trump has been showing for decades.

Of course, those people will somehow say the reporter was wrong for wanting a complete clarification of "the stockpile is for us" that explains it better than "not for the states, but for the federal government" when both fucking entities actually represent the "US" that should be at the heart of the statement:  The people living in the United States. But Trump can't actually explain that, so she wants to know if Kushner is referring to a different "US" than the people Trump is supposed to be representing, which happens to be, everyone living in the United States.

But again, that isn't what they say. So who do they think they're actually representing?
