The problem with depression is the cyclical nature of it.
How do you motivate yourself to do something as anxiety provoking as calling a suicide prevention line when you can't even motivate yourself to get out of bed, and face every day life?
When anxiety has you so wrung that you can barely face going to your mailbox or answering your phone, how can you take difficult steps needed to protect yourself from yourself?
You ask a friend to help.
Sometimes that can also be a challenge. People tend to feel isolated, or distanced from social interaction by their own perspectives. They might be embarrassed, or feel like they’re inconveniencing others. There can be feelings of no one else understanding, and a fear of rejection when asking for help is met with a lack of understanding, or empathy. It’s a difficult cycle for many people, and unless people can truly relate, finding solace in others can feed to the cycle, rather than help break it.
