Something Like Summer

Something like summer floated in on a warm breeze today. Suddenly gone were the doldrums that held life in check through a long, snowy winter. Gone were the stinging winds, and temperatures that arouse the skin in a sentimentally torturous way. The sun warmed the grass blades still tired from the heavy, pressing snow, and the beetles danced among the unfurling leaves of the Lilac now just starting to show.

And for a moment in time I allowed my self reprieve from the pressing needs to enjoy this summer breeze. I let soak in the heavenly light, warming my skin with a different arousal, and sensuous delight. And here in this moment of lonely love, where I could enjoy the blessings from the sun above, I wrapped myself in the words on page; comforting and reassuring. My guiding mage: a book, and the cold tang from a glass. The elixir that slows time, and carves the words of this book into my mind, making the emotions last.

Gone are the days of reading and writing, while sipping a drink far from my destination. The romance of new discovery. Life, literature, music and creation. That weekly thrill of discovering new places and new faces. Discovering the world, and the universe within. Finding my own way, new ways each day where life could begin.

But for this moment in time, in the warming light of the sun, where life can slow its hectic pace and the birds can sing an evening song, I find that emotion I once craved within the words written on a page. Ready to embrace the next paragraph in life; word by word, line by line.

And when the next adventure comes my way, I’ll be ready with the words and a song, to embrace that day.
